The Art of Matcha: A Beginner's Guide

Matcha is more than just a drink—it's a meditation, a ritual, a moment of intentional stillness in an often rushed day.

Unlike steeped green tea, matcha involves preparing a fine powder directly into hot water, creating a full-bodied experience where you consume the whole leaf. This means all the nutrients, antioxidants, and amino acids are delivered in each sip.

To prepare matcha properly, start with quality powder from Japan. Sift 1-2 grams into a warm ceramic bowl. Add about 70-80ml of water heated to roughly 80°C—boiling water will scald the matcha and create bitterness. Using a bamboo whisk (chasen), whisk in an M or W motion until the powder fully dissolves and a light froth forms on top.

The ceremony matters. Slow down. Use the moment to arrive fully in your day. Feel the warmth of the bowl in your hands. Notice the color, the aroma, the subtle sweetness. This is where the real nourishment happens.
